Take Your New York DMV Vision Test at Broadway Vision Center at 170th

If you need to get and maintain a valid driver's license in the state of New York, you will have to pass a vision test every time you apply or re-apply for that license. Taking an extra vision test may seem like an unnecessary hassle, especially if you just underwent recent vision testing or were planning to have a comprehensive eye exam soon anyway. Our optometrist , Dr. Gold, can simplify matters by administering your DMV vision test here at Broadway Vision Center at 170th.

DMV vision testing is one of those necessary inconveniences that nobody enjoys but everybody benefits from. You no doubt feel a lot safer in your car when you know that your fellow drivers can at least see clearly enough to control their vehicles, read signs and avoid collisions. That said, a DMV vision test doesn't have to record a perfect result to permit you to drive legally in the state of New York. But you do have to demonstrate a visual acuity of 20/40, instead of the "benchmark" of 20/20 vision.

These numbers relate to the way we measure your eyesight from a distance of 20 feet. The standard Snellen eye chart displays rows of letters of different sizes. If you can read the fourth-from-bottom row of letters perfectly (without or without corrective lenses), then you have 20/20 vision because that's the row most people should be able to read at a 20-foot distance. If you can only read letters at 20 feet that most people could read at 40 feet, then you have 20/40 vision. As long as your vision can be corrected to this degree of acuity, you can obtain a driver's license and can legally drive in New York. Sometimes, however, there are qualifying limits; for example, if cataracts or some other condition has left you with poor night vision, your license may be restricted to daytime driving only.

Schedule Your DMV Vision With Our Washington Heights Optometrist Today

Our Washington Heights optometrist can take care of your DMV vision test for you, either as a standalone procedure or in addition to routine eye and vision evaluations. If you're having some trouble with your visual acuity, we can write the necessary corrective lens prescription or update right then and there and get those corrective lenses made for you so you can take your corrected vision on the road as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will digitally transmit the results of your test to the DMV to streamline the process of ordering and receiving your new or renewed driver's license -- and you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that your eyes are up to the task of safe driving.

Call Broadway Vision Center at 170th at 212-927-2020 to schedule a DMV vision test with our Washington Heights optometrist. We can help you make sure that you're driving legally and seeing clearly!
